Angus Watson
Consultant Under Development
What’s he like?
Angus is imaginative, persistent and analytical. He seeks to impart true understanding and internalisation of concepts, rather than a mere surface level understanding or a ‘monkey see monkey do’ approach.
He believes that discomfort and development go hand in hand, and that in order for new paths to be there must be a willingness to embrace the anxiety of change and the risk of failure. He’s had first hand experience of this, having been diagnosed at university with ADHD and has had to learn new ways that allow him to engage well with all aspects of life whilst managing this condition.
Angus approaches listening with a compassionate ear and the belief that there is a time to advise, and a time to just listen.
What’s he done?
Angus has recently started with GameShift after completing his undergraduate degree in Classical Civilisation at the University of Warwick. While he was a student, Angus was heavily involved in the University Thai boxing club, taking the role of Vice-President in his final year.
After finishing his studies, Angus got involved in the film business. To begin with he did a short stint with the COVID team for an Apple TV production called Hijack with Idris Elba. He then moved to another Apple studio to work in the Facilities department. Deciding that the world of the silver screen was not for him, Angus joined GameShift with an eye to exploring Leadership and Development Consulting.
Why does he bother?
Whilst coaching Thai Boxing sessions at university Angus discovered a hitherto unknown love of teaching. He found helping others grow and develop a skillset they had never explored an incredibly rewarding process, and seeing his students utilise their newfound abilities in the pressured environment of competition were some of his most treasured university memories.
But he’s also very clear that he doesn’t want to teach children! So, trying to find somewhere that he combine his love of teaching with adults, Angus decided to explore consultancy. He believes that it is crucial to think of organisations not as singular entities but as a collection of individuals, and that individual development is the seed which creates change on all levels from the operational to the strategic.
Angus believes that growth and development as an individual should be seen as an eternal and lifelong process, and that it is through this ongoing ‘racing of the sunset’ that purpose, contentment and achievement are found.
Is he qualified?
Angus has a BA (Hons) from the University of Warwick in Classical Civilisation. Later this year he is hoping to become accredited as a Coach & Mentor, through the WiseGoose Foundations Course. He’s also going to take the Practical Facilitations Skills Course at Roffey Park so that he learns the official skills behind working with groups!
Some quotes to get to know him by
As a classicist, it’s unsurprising that Angus’s quotes come from the ancient world….
“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
Marcus Aurelius
“If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.”
Epictetus
“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others”.
Pericles
