We had a brilliant session with Becky Ray for our June pop-up event. As usual I’m not going to attempt a summary, but instead to give some personal reactions. You can view the recording of the event below (using the password: CultureKick).
This was an event filled with clear insight and straightforward advice – and I came away with a clear message – human error is normal and is going to happen, organisations need to take active steps to remove the causes of error. Becky set out a crystal-clear description of different types of error and their causes: from error traps and slips, to lapses and mistakes. I loved the wealth of stories that brought these different types of error vibrantly to life.
At the heart of Becky’s message was that organisations can “blame and punish” or they can “learn and improve”, but can’t do both at the same time. Becky showed how error and its avoidance is at heart and issue of leadership and culture. I came away the conviction that most of our clients should spend some time with Becky – and I know that if you want a follow up conversation she’d be delighted to talk.

Our next pop-up is When Things Must End – and it will be on 16th July with Gemma Lloyd. Gemma is a coach and palliative care nursing specialist. She’s going to join us to explore the links between palliative care and organisational life. This will be a fascinating session, please come along and do share the invitation with your network.
