Kay is a vastly experienced consultant with almost 40 of experience – splitting her time between consulting and playing top-level corporate roles. She knows the reality of running a company, from turnaround situations to start-ups, she’s built new cultures and re-formed operating models.
She’s a consultant with plenty of mud on her boots. Her own words say it best: “I have no illusions about the grit, focus, patience and creativity it takes to deliver an outcome” Kay says, “It is never the same journey. Every business has a unique set of humans, of challenges and dynamics. I have no cookie-cutter and no rose-tinted freshly minted views of consulting”.
Kay is a genuine partner walking alongside people to get the outcomes needed. “Getting it right is exhilarating” she says, and this energy, coupled with her wealth of experience, shines through in everything she does.
Kay grew up with change in her DNA, she says. “As a child I went to 11 schools, moving towns, cities and countries trailing behind my father’s big corporate roles. I have always been the “new girl” and I guess this taught me to be very comfortable with discomfort, fascinated by newness, quietly observant and always ready to change and create new relationships. In time I became a challenger, a rebel, strong-minded and independent.
Kay’s story is one of growing through a wide range of consulting and CEO roles. “Initially I was called in for marketing and brand strategy ” she says, “as this was my specialisation and source of reputation. As I grew and led business changes and turnarounds as a CEO, I loved the ability to not only define the strategy with the team, but to deliver the actions that changed cultures, portfolio’s, brands, value chains and profitability”.
She’s a great consultant to have at your side when a project is complex, with no clear path, no single answer. She loves working alongside people who really want to make their businesses better and who also have a bigger view of the roles they can play in society and in the world. “I simply fall in love with challenges, with people, with impossibility” – it’s a great motivation to bring to her work.
Clients talk of Kay as “a good friend of our business, we trust her”. They speak of her as someone who is “really cares about our business and whose energy and creativity inspires us”.
We are delighted that Kay has agreed to become our partner in Africa, and we are thrilled at the adventures and learning for us all..
